• Mekala Sundaram, PhD

    Principal Investigator

I have a PhD in Quantitative Ecology from Purdue University. I also have a MS in Conservation Biology from Central Michigan University and BS in Life Sciences and Biochemistry from University of Mumbai.

  • Payton Phillips, PhD

    Postdoctoral scholar

I am a disease and landscape ecologist, broadly interested in understanding how human activities relate to zoonotic disease incidence in human and animal populations. I received my PhD from Temple University, where I studied animal movement and behavior, as well as tick-borne disease patterns in urban environments. At UGA, I will be focusing on better understanding human disease outbreaks and endemicity.

  • Kuldeep Chouhan

    PhD student

I am interested in quantitative disease ecology and applying ecological modeling tools to disease questions. I have experience using spatial quantitative approaches to address ecological questions, such as animal distribution. My expertise in using modeling tools can be extended to study spatial variation in wild animal host occurrence, and spillover events.

  • Sneha Dharwadkar

    PhD student

I am a wildlife biologist, pursuing a PhD in Comparative Biomedical Sciences. My PhD revolves around infectious disease dynamics in turtles and includes disciplines of disease ecology, evolutionary biology and computational biology. I am a co-founder of the Freshwater Turtles and Tortoises Foundation (FTTF), which is involved in research, education, and community conservation of freshwater turtles and tortoises of India. I am deeply passionate about enhancing diversity and fostering equity and inclusion in the field of wildlife biology. I work towards increasing participation of women of color in the field. When not working, I enjoy bird watching and painting.
